Day Three: Dog Friendly

Traveling with the pooch?

Napa is known as a vacation getaway with their loved ones. For some (like myself) who travel with their beloved four-legged companion, it’s always good to scout out the pet-friendly wineries in the area. I simply love sipping my wine while Monster (photo on the right) says hello to other dog lovers.

For some great wine tasting, visit Alpha Omega in Rutherford, CA where the top dogs will have to step aside for some Alpha good wine. Dogs are welcome to play in the grassy lawn upfront, or sit with their human companions while they sit on their outdoor patio that overlooks the water feature.

Honig's out door patio

Down the street is the sustainable wine leader, Honig. The are completely energy sufficient thanks to the 819 solar panels installed in 2006. Your pooch is welcome to sit on the patio for a nice out-door tasting experience and also romp & play with the winery dogs too.

At Ehlers Estate, just off the 29 Highway, you can enjoy a barrel sample of their estate grown wines followed by gourmet food & wine pairing. Additionally, Ehlers Estates donates 100% percent of the proceeds from the sale of our wines goes to support the Leducq Foundation, a highly regarded, not-for-profit foundation dedicated to funding international cardiovascular research.

Vineyard pooches playing at Dutch Henry

In Calistoga, the Dutch Henry has an outdoor bocce ball court where you can spent time relaxing, sipping and play a few rounds. If you prefer to taste inside, puppies can also follow you into the tasting room.

For Cabernet lovers, the quiet and uncrowded Bennett Lane welcomes pooches on the vineyard and on their patio. Be sure to also ask them about Nascar!

For those who prefer to take a tour, reach out to Napa Good Dog which features custom Pet-Friendly Wine Tours. Owner, Dan Cartwright, is also a dog trainer who can help ensure puppies is on his/her best behavior…

As with most smaller wineries, be sure to call ahead and make reservations to ensure quality service for you and your doggie. Have fun and also don’t forget to pack extra water too! What are some of your favorite dog-friendly wineries & establishments?

Sonya Lee

Since a child, Sonya has been traveling from the corners of Canada to the far east Asia. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she led a normal family life with her brother, mother and dad. A well received job opportunity in Hong Kong for her father put the compass in action from a young age. Sonya loves good food, and I mean GOOD simple food. She loves an occasional drink, be merry and enjoy the good times. Having recently healed herself from a large ruptured cyst, her favorite foods include fresh carrot juice, grilled vegetables, sauteed portabello mushrooms and truffle french fries. Her philosophy? Healthy food makes a healthy body. Read more on the Editor page. When she's not fretting over WAFT, she runs a small design agency called mowie media and shares the good times with her dog, Monster and 3 cats Sabi, Kaeli & Misty.
