Do you love Champagne more than wine?
If so, you’re in luck if visiting Napa as it is home to some of the finest bubbly wine in the world. Napa offers a trail of sparkling wine options throughout the Carneros and Napa Valley regions.
For phenomenal wines and service, check out Domain Chandon where you can taste their Classic or Reserve flight. For those who don’t enjoy the bubbly, try the Varietal Tasting where you’ll sample delicious, subtly oaked Carneros Chardonnay, crisp and fruity Carneros Pinot Noir Rosé and tantalizing and food-friendly Carneros Pinot Noir. No appointment is required, however tour packages will require advanced ticketing which can be purchased online.
For a winery with modest beginnings, the Schramsberg winery dates back to 1862 when Jacob Schrams and his wife Annie purchased land in Napa in efforts to create wine with fellow Germans. Jacob planted European styled vines and was soon creating 12,000 gallons of wine by 1876.
Sign up for an educational tour and sample their wines in one of the oldest caves built in Napa. Advanced reservations are required and start on time, so book them early and don’t be late! (Tip, if you’re a fan of bubbly + caviar, download this file for pairing options!)
For a more relaxed seated environment, head over to Mumm Napa. Seat either at the Patio, Tasting Salon or Oak Terrace, which requires reservations. While you’re there, also take a sneak a peek at their Fine Art Photography gallery. You won’t be able to bring your drinks in, but you will truly feel on vacation enjoying the outdoor sights and indoor art.
Though just outside of Napa Valley, visit Sonoma’s Gloria Ferrer which features Spanish wine experiences dating back to family roots and techniques from the 19th century. The winery offers a selection of Sparkling Wine and Pinot Noir for sampling which is to be enjoyed while absorbing in dramatic estate views.
Just a few miles down the road is the Domaine Carneros, a premiere is founded by Champagne Taittinger, Domaine Carneros was founded by Champagne Taittinger, the great Champagne house of France. All of their wines are derived from their estate vineyards, and as of 2008 are certified organic. Domaine Carneros offers wine tours throughout the day and visitors can taste from a menu of sparkling wines and Pinot Noir selections. Sit on the outdoor terrace or in their indoor table-service salon and pair your tastings with a cheese plate, caviar, smoked salmon or delicate pastries.
As with most wineries, groups of 6 of more do require advanced reservations to ensure top-notch service. You’ll find that driving around Napa & Somona can be an enjoyable, breathtaking and refreshing experience that will leave you wanting to spend more time. Book no more than 3-4 wineries per day so that you have enough time to ‘take it all in’!
